With CBD products exploding on the market, it can be hard to sift through it all and find one that actually works. We tested two CBD products from Floyd’s of Leadville, their CBD Full Spectrum Tincture (600mg) and their Transdermal Isolate CBD Cream (1200mg).
Floyd’s of Leadville CBD products are both grown and made in Colorado with solely organic (non-GMO) materials. They use a CO2 extraction process to control what is derived. It’s worth noting that Floyd’s of Leadville offers laboratory testing results to prove efficacy so that you know what you are getting is real.
The difference between CBD tinctures oils and hemp oils
One point of confusion on the CBD market is between low priced hemp oils and CBD full spectrum tinctures made with hemp oil. Hemp oils alone are just oils which contain incidental CBD (if any). On the other hand, Floyd’s of Leadville Tincture product is a full spectrum CBD hemp oil. Full-spectrum CBD oil means that you are getting a whole party of cannabinoids that work stronger together than if you just got one (which is called an isolate). To cut to the chase, this is the kind of CBD oil that is really worth your money.
How effective is their CBD oil tincture?
I personally used it to stave off migraines successfully. In comparison, I’ve tested cheaper brands that were not nearly as effective.
When it comes to taste, the oil tastes just like pure hemp oil, which is a neutral, somewhat grassy flavor that you hold under your tongue for a minute for absorption. You can use it in food too, but you lose a lot of the absorption through the stomach versus sublingual.
The CBD oil tincture we tested is the full spectrum tincture that comes with 600mg of CBD in a bottle for $55. That equates to 30 servings of 20mg of CBD at $1.83 a serving. That’s pretty middle ground pricing in the current market.
How effective is their transdermal isolate CBD sports cream?
Transdermal CBD creams stay in the dermis. So this cream is best for close-to-the-surface pain. For example, after a misguided two-finger pull-up attempt, my husband was experiencing some serious joint pain in his hands. We applied the cream onto his fingers and he felt a warm sense of pain relief very quickly.
I’ve used it on a very tense area of my neck that was giving me a tension migraine, and I experienced a similar comforting sense of pain relief. It also feels pretty soothing for arthritic hands and knees.
However, using the cream for something more internal, like period cramps won’t work because it just doesn’t reach that far. That said, many people like to use CBD cream proactively, to prevent pain instead of treating symptoms. That includes before lifting or bike riding. It’s also very effective for post workouts. I especially appreciate that its slightly minty eucalyptus scent is pleasant and not intrusive.
At $69 for 100 servings of 12mg CBD isolate, that’s a per serving cost of $0.70. That pricing isn’t bad for pain relief or pain prevention.
The Bottom Line
Floyd’s of Leadville offers the real deal quality CBD goods. Their Full Spectrum Tincture is organic with no additives, while their Sports Cream CBD Isolate offers a more topical way to relieve pain. Overall, we highly recommend Floyd’s of Leadville for their effective CBD pain-relief focused products that are fairly priced.
