Roundup: YEA gets LSU credit / CBD oil closer to legality / US productivity growth – Greater Baton Rouge Business Report

Extra credit: Students who participate in Baton Rouge’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy, a nonprofit that aims to give high school students an experience in entrepreneurship, could get three credit hours at LSU, YEA announced today. To get the hours, students must enroll within four years of completing YEA and bring their certificate of completion to LSU’s Stephenson Department for evaluation. Applications for the fall YEA class are being accepted through August 15 at www.yeabr.org/apply.

Clearing up: Lawmakers are taking steps to clear confusion in laws that have put sellers and buyers of wildly popular hemp-derived CBD products in a catch-22, WBRZ-TV reports.  The oils are being sold in stores throughout Louisiana even though it’s technically a Schedule I narcotic under state law. The products are legal under federal law and now state lawmakers are trying to catch up. A bill to remove hemp from the state criminal code, and therefore hemp-derived CBD products, passed through a legislative committee Wednesday. Read the full story.

Gains: U.S. productivity grew at a solid 3.6% rate in the first three months of this year, the strongest quarterly gain in more than four years and a hopeful sign that a long stretch of weak productivity gains may be coming to an end. The first quarter increase in productivity was more than double the 1.3% rate of gain in the fourth quarter, the Labor Department reported this morning. Read the full story.
